Welcome to my percent post

Part 1 - Describe how to find percents.

  • 50% - take the number and divide it by 2
  • 10% - take the number and divide it by 10
  • 1% -  take the number and divide it by 1
  • 25% - take the number and divide it by 4
  • You also need to define what a percent is - a percent is another term for "hundredths".


Part 2 - You need to show 3 images showing Representing Percents. You choose the 3 but you could


  • 180%

  • 12 3/4 %


  • 0.7%



Part 3 - You need to explain how to convert from Decimals to Percents to Fractions. Choose 3 sets


  • 26%
Decimals:
To convert percents to decimals, divide the number by a hundred (26 ÷ 100 = 0.26)

Fractions:
To convert percents to fractions, you have to find the decimal. Once you have found the decimal, find the place value of the last digit after the decimal. (0.26 = 26/100)
  • 7/10%
Decimals:
To convert fractions to decimals, divide the numerator and the denominator together. (7 ÷ 10 = 0.7)

Percents:
To convert fractions to decimals, multiply the decimal that you got by 100. (0.7 x 100 = 70)
  • 0.024%
Fractions:
To convert decimals to fractions, find out the place value of the last digit of the decimal. (0.024 = 24/1000)

Percents:
To convert decimals to percents, multiply the decimal to 100. (0.024 x 100 = 2.4)


Part 4 - Percent of a number is the next part of this exercise. Show how you could solve the following using mental math and a calculator.


  • 20% of 60
Mental Math:
10% of 60 - 60 ÷ 10 = 6
6 x 2 = 12

Calculator:
20% of 60 - 60 ÷ 100 = 0.6
0.6 x 20 = 12

  • 0.1% of 40
Mental Math:
40 ÷ 1000 = 0.04

Calculator:
1% of 40 - 40 ÷ 100 = 0.4
0.4 x 0.1 = 0.04
  • 250% of 400
Mental Math:
400 x 2 = 800 - 400 ÷ 2 = 200
200 + 800 = 1000

Calculator:
400 ÷ 100 = 4
4 x 250 = 1000

Part 5 - Combining Percents is the last part of this post. You need to explain Discount, Sale Price and Total Price with taxes. I also need you to explain what is a better deal 50% off or 25% off of an already reduced price of 25%. This can be done using the following questions,

Discount - Discount is a deduction from the usual cost of a selling object.
Sale Price - Sale Price is the lower price for the object(s) you are buying.
Total Price With Taxes - The total price with taxes is the final cost of the objects(s) you are buying. Depending where you live, you have to pay extra.

QUESTION:
What is the final sale price at each store? Which is a better buy?
Store A: 50% off one day only - $249
Store B: 25% off one day followed by 25% off the reduced price the second day - $249

Store A:
50% divide by 2
249 ÷ 2 = $124.50

Store B:
25% divide by 4
249 ÷ 4 = 62.25
$249 - 62.25 = $186.75

Store A is better because you get to save more money. The difference is $62.25. Store A's discount was bigger making the price cheaper than Store B even if they discounted the price twice.
