Dave's Percent post

Welcome to my Percent Post!!

Part 1- how to find key percentss

  • 50%
When finding 50% of a number you have to divide a number into two equal parts.
(ex. 50% of 80 is 40.)
  • 10%
When trying to find 10% of a number you will have to divide the number by 10 to get 10%.
(ex. 10% of 25 is 2.5)
  • 1%
When trying to find 1% of a number, you have to divide the number by 100.
(ex. 100 divided by 100 = 1%)
  • 25%
When trying to find 25% of a number, you would have to divide your number into 4 equal pieces.
(ex. 25% of 200 = is 50)
  • you also have to define what percent mean
Percent is a number out of 100.
ex. 30 percent is 30/100

Part 2    You need to have 3 images showing Representing Percents.  You choose the 3 but you could

180%)

12 3/4%)

0.07%)

Part 3)You need to explain how to convert from Decimals to Percents to Fractions.  Choose 3 sets

24%)
You would have to divide the number by 100 to get the decimal. To get the percent you would have to get the decimal number and multipy that by 100. to find the fraction you would have to look at the last digit of the number to see what the place value is to know what your denominator is.
24 divided by 100= 0.24
0.24x100=24%
0.24==24/100

 7/10)
to find the the decimal you have to divide your number (7/10) to get 0.7 . to find the fraction look at the last number to see what place value its in so 0.7 . the 7 is in the 10s value so its 7/10. to find the percent you have to multipyl the decimal by 100 to get the percent. 0.7x100=70%

0.024
to find the percent of this number you would have to multiply 0.024 by 100 to get the percent
0.024x100=2.4
to find the fraction you would have to look at the last digit to see what place it is
0.024= 24/1000

part 4.  Percent of a number is the next part of this exercise.  Show how you could solve the following using mental math and a calculator.

20%of 60
you would have to divide by 10
10%=6
10%=6
       =12

0.1% of 40
to find 1% of a number you would have to divide by 100 but if your looking for 0.1% of a number you would have to divide by 1000
40 divided by 100= 0.40
0.40 divided by 10=0.04

250% of 400

   Mental math
   100%=400
   100%=400
   50%=200
   400+400+200= 1000

    Calculator:
    400 divided by 100=4
    4x250=1000

part5

Discount - The discount is how much you take away from your original price and what you save.

Sale Price - The sale price is a new price on one item. So the original price has changed to a lower price, which is also the sale price. For example the original price was $75 and now it's $59

Total Prices with Taxes - The total prices are what you pay for after you have calculated how much you need to pay, then the taxes are the percentages that you have to pay for additional money, which usually depends on where you live. After you add the total prices and taxes together, that's how much you need to pay.

Textbook Question -
What is the sale price at each store? Which is a better buy?
Explain your thinking.
Store A: $350.99 is the original price and is 50% off one day only.
Store B: $375.00 is the original price and is 25% off one day followed by 25% off the reduced price the second day.
Store A -
day one
350.99÷2=175.50
Sale Price at store A is $175.50

Store B -
Day One,
375÷100
=3.75 x 25
=93.75
$375 - $93.75
= $281.25

Day Two,
281.25÷100
=2.81 x 25
=70.25
$281.25 - $70.25
=$211

Marc Manlulu: Percent Post

Welcome to my percent post

Pt. 1

  • 50%- Divide it by 2
  • 10%- Divide it by 10
  • 25%- Divide it by 4
  • 1%- divide it by 100
  • A number out of a hundred.
Pt. 2

180%-

12 3/4%-

0.7%-

Pt. 3

26%

Decimal- All you do is divide it by 100 to get the decimal(26 divide it by 100= 0.26)
Fraction- First find out the decimal. Then your numerator would be the number after the decimal.
*But you don't know your denominator yet!*
0.26-  26/x   (x=variable)
After you found out your numerator you have to find the denominator to complete the fraction. All you have to do is you just have to find the place value of the last digit of the decimal. The last digit is 0.26 which is in the hundredths place so your denominator would be 100.

26/100(26 over 100)

7/10

Decimal- All you do is is divide the numerator by the denominator. (7 divided by 10=0.7)
Fraction- Find the decimal first.(0.7). Then multiply it by 100 because percent is out of a hundred.

0.7x100=70%

0.024
Percent- All you do is multiply it by 100 to get the percent. (0.024x100=2.4%)
Fraction- Find the numerator. Your numerator would be 24. (24/?). For the denominator you have to look at the last digit of the place value of the decimal(0.024) which in the thousandths. So then your fraction would be:

24/1000

Pt.4

1) 20% of 60
    Mental Math:
    10% of 60=6
    10% of 60=6

    Calculator:
    60 divided by 100=0.6
    0.6x20= 12

2) 0.1% of 40
    Mental Math
40 divided by 1000=0.04(move the decimal to the left 3x)

    Calculator
    40 divided by 100= 0.4
    0.4x0.01= 0.04

3)250% of 400
   Mental math
   100%=400
   100%=400
   50%=200
   400+400+200= 1000

    Calculator:
    400 divided by 100=4
    4x250=1000
Pt.5

Discount is the amount of percentage taken off a regular price : a price reduction.
Sale Price is when the original price is reduced or changed to a lower price.
Total Price with Taxes is total or amount of money with discounts and sale prices you have to pay. Then the tax is the percentage of the total price of what you need to pay. It depends where you live. There is the GST tax and the PST tax.

Question-
What is the final sale price at each store? Which is a better buy?
Store A- 50% off for one day

Store B- 25% off one day followed by 25% off the reduced price the second day

Example: price=$320.00

Store A- 320 divided by 2=$160.00
             $320.00-$160.00= $160.00

Store B- 320 divided by 4=$80.00
             $320.00 -$80.00=$240.00

             $240.00 divided by 4= $60.00
             $240.00-$60.00= $180.00

Store A would be a better buy because even though store B is 25% off then 25% off the next day, store A has a bigger discount to the price. Store A has $20.00 more off than Store B.

Part 5 - Combining Percents.

Discount - Discount is the amount you subtract from its original value.

Sale Price - Sale price is a price that is lower than what the regular price was before.

Total Price with Taxes - Total Price with Taxes is the final price for an item that you pay extra for.

Question:
What is the final sale price at each store? Which is a better buy?
Store A: 50% off one day only
Store B: 25% off one day followed by 25% off the reduced price the second day

Price: $260.00

Store A:
Day 1:
$260 ÷ 100 = 2.6
2.6 x 50 = $130.00

Store B:
Day 1-
$260
÷ 100 = 2.6
2.6 x 25 = 65
$260 - 65 = $195.00
Day 2-
$195 ÷ 100 = 1.95
1.95 x 25 = $48.75
$195 - $48.75 = $146.25

Store A would be the better buy because you pay less more money than Store B.

That is my percent post!

Tiana's Percent Post

| Welcome to my percent post, friends.  |

Part 1 -  Understanding percents.

50% - Take the whole you have and divide it by 2 to get half, which is the same as 50%.
10% -  Take the whole and divide it by 10 to get 10% of the whole.
1% - Take the whole and divide it by 100, the number that you get is 1% of the whole.
25% - Take the whole and divide it by 4 to get 25% of your whole.

Percent -  A percent is a number out of 100 and is also another way of saying hundredths. ( eg. 21/100 is the same as 21% )

Part 2 - Representing Percents

180% -

12 3/4% -

0.7% -

Part 3 - Converting Decimals, Percents and Fractions

26%
  • Decimal - Take the whole and divide it by 100. eg) 26 ÷ 100 = 0.26
  • Fraction - To convert decimals to a fraction you need the decimal first. The digits that come after the decimal becomes your numerator.

    eg) 0.26 = 26/?

After you've done that, you need to find out what place value the last digit of your decimal is in. That place value becomes your denominator.0.06

eg) 0.20.06 | The 6 is in the hundredths place value, so your fraction would be 26/100

7/10

  • Decimal - To convert a fraction to a decimal, you take the numerator [ 7 ], and divide it by the denominator [ 10 ]

    eg) 7 ÷ 10 = 0.7
  • Percent - To convert a fraction to a percent, you firstly need to find the decimal, and then multiply by 100. Don't forget to add the percent symbol after it.

    eg) 7 ÷ 10 = 0.7
          0.7 × 100 = 70%

0.024

  • Fraction - To convert a decimal to a fraction you need to find what place value the last digit of your decimal is in, which becomes your denominator. And then take away the zeros and decimals to make the digits after the decimal, your numerator.

eg) 0.024 0.004 | The 4 is in the thousandths place value so your denominator would be ?/1000

As for the numerator, take the digits that are after the decimal and it becomes your numerator.

    eg) 0.024 = 24/1000 is your fraction.
  • Percent - To convert a decimal to a percent you multiply the whole by 100.

    eg) 0.024 × 100 = 2.4%

Part 4 - Percents of a Number

20% of 60

  • Mental Math - To find out 20% of 60 using mental math, you can find out what 10 percent of 60 is and then multiply it by 2.

    eg) 10% of 60 = 6
          6 × 2 = 12 | 20% of 60 is 12.
  • Calculator - To find 20% of 60 using a calculator you take your percent [20%], divide it by 100 and multiply it by the whole [60].

    eg) 20 ÷ 100 = 0.2
          0.2 × 60 = 12
0.1% of 40
  • Mental Math - To find 0.1% of 40 you need to first find out 1% of 40, and then divide that number by 10. An alternative you can do is divide the whole by 1000, because to find 1% of a number, you divide by 100, so to find 0.1% you divide by 1000.

    eg) 40 ÷ 100 = 0.4
          0.4 ÷ 10 = 0.04 | 0.1% of 40 = 0.04

          ALTERNATIVE;
40 ÷ 1000 - To do this mentally you can start from the right of the whole and move the decimal as many times as there of zeros within the number you're dividing it by. So for this question, you start from the right of the 40 and move the decimal 3 places to the left because there are 3 zeros in 1000.

    eg) 40 ÷ 1000 = 0.04
  • Calculator - Using a calculator for this, all you need to do is divide 40 by 100 and divide it once again by 10 and it'll give you the answer right away. If you want a bit of a shortcut, another method you can use is dividing the whole by 1000.

    eg) 40 ÷ 100 = 0.4
          40 ÷ 10 = 0.04
                    OR
          40 ÷ 1000 = 0.04
250% of 400
  • Mental Math - To find 250% of 400 with mental math, you can multiply 400 by 2 [ Because it is 200%] And then from the whole, you divide it by 2 / find the half and add it together, which is the same as getting 50%.

    eg) 2 × 400 = 800
          800 + 200 = 1000 [ 50% of 400 = 200 ]
          250% of 400 = 1000
  • Calculator - To use a calculator all you have to do is divide the whole [ 400 ] by 100, and then multiply it by 250.

    eg) 400 ÷ 100 = 4
          4 × 250 = 1000
Part 5 - Combining Percents

Discount - A discount is when a price has been reduced / lowered from it's original value. The discount is usually a percent out of 100 in which the amount the percent is worth how much you are saving.

Sale Price - A sale price is how much the item costs after the discount is taken off the original value. It will always be a lower value than the original price.

Total Price with Taxes - A total price with taxes is the amount you are paying after discounts are made and both GST and PST taxes are included. Taxes are always added whether there is a discount or not. [Taxes in Manitoba are 13%]

Question :
Store A: $326.78 [ 50% off once]
Store B: $326.78 [ 25% off first day, additional 25% off second day ]

Store A -
326.78 ÷ 100 = 3.2678
3.2678 × 50% = $163.39 - Final Price of 50% off
[ note; there's no need to subtract the 50% because since it's half, the difference is the same value ]
Store B -
326.78 ÷ 100 = 3.2678
3.2678 × 25% = 81.695
326.78 - 81.695 = 245.085 - Round off to $245.09 [ First day sale ]

245.085 ÷ 100 = 2.45085
2.45085 × 25 = 61.27125
245.085 - 61.27125 = 183.81375
Round off to $183.81 - Final Price of 25% off first day and additional 25% off second day.

Store A is the better buy, the reason is because reducing the price by 50% has a lower price value than 25% off an additional 25% off item. 50% is the same as having a half of one thing, if it's 50% of the price, then you only pay half of the price. With Store B, having 25% off one day, still has the price a bit high, and an additional 25% won't make the discount very significant. Although both stores have the same price of item, and the discounts match up [ 50% an 25% + 25% ]. Store A would be the way to go.

Also, another reason is because 50% off of one item has a different value than the method Store B used, because they started off with the same price but they discounted 25% and then another 25%. The second day discount does not apply to the original price, but instead of the discounted price, that's why the discounts from both store do not have the same value although they match up.

Marla Mae's Percent Post

~Welcome to my percent post~

Part 1. Describe how to find percents
  • 50% -To find 50% of a number, what you have to do is take your number and divide it by 2.
  • 10% - To find 10% of a number, what you have to do is take your number and divide it by 10.
  • 1% - To find 1% of a number, what you have to do is take you number and divide it by 100.
  • 25% - To find 25% of a number, what you have to do is take you number and divide it by 4.
  • Definition of a percent - a word is a number out of a hundred. Percent it also another word for "hundredths".
Part 2. Representing Percents.
  • 180%
  • 12 3/4 %
  • 0.7%
Part 3. Converting Decimals to Percents to Fractions.
  • 26%
Decimal - To convert a percent to a decimal, what you do is take your whole and divide it by 100.
26÷100=0.26

Fraction - To convert a percent into a fraction, what you do is take your whole number and turn it into a decimal and then look at the last digit and use that last digits place for your denominator.
26÷100=0.26
0.26 in this case the 6 is the last digit, it's in the hundredths place. So it would be 26/100)
  • 7/10
Percent - To convert a fraction into a percent, what you do is take the numerator and divide it by the denominator. Then you take your decimal number and multiply it by 100. (Example 7/10, 7÷10=0.7 0.7 x 100 = 70)

Decimal - To convert a fraction to a decimal, what you do is take the numerator and divide it by the denominator and you should get a decimal for your answer. (Example, 7÷10=0.7)

  • 0.024
Fraction - To convert a decimal to a fraction, what you do is look at the last number of the decimal and see what place value the last digit is. Which is 4, it's in the thousandths place value.
0.024 thousands place, 24/1000.

Percent - To convert a decimal to a percent, what you do is multiply your number by 100.
0.024 x 100 = 2.4
Part 4.  Percent of a number is the next part of this exercise. Mental Math. How to find a percent of a number.

  • 20% of 60
20% of 60
10% = 6
10% = 6
6+6=12
20% of 60 is 12.
  • 0.1% of 40
0.1% of 40
If you know that you're trying to find 1% of a number you divide it by 100. So since you're trying 0.1% of 40 you take 40 and divide it by a 1000.
40÷1000
=0.04
  • 250% of 400
100% is 400 so if you double it you get 200 and also figure out 50% you then add those two together 200 + 50 = 250 and you have your 250%.
400÷100
= 4 x 250
= 1000

Part 5. Combining Percents.

Discount - The discount is how much you take away from your original price. The discount is also how much money you save.

Sale Price - The sale price is a new price on one item. So the original price has changed to a lower price, which is also the sale price. For example the original price was $50 and now it's $35.

Total Prices with Taxes - The total prices are what you pay for after you have calculated how much you need to pay, then the taxes are the percentages that you have to pay for additional money, which usually depends on where you live. After you add the total prices and taxes together, that's how much you need to pay.

Textbook Question
What is the sale price at each store? Which is a better buy?
Explain your thinking.
Store A: $350.99 is the original price and is 50% off one day only.
Store B: $375.00 is the original price and is 25% off one day followed by 25% off the reduced price the second day.

Store A -
One Day,
350.99÷2=175.50
Sale Price at store A is $175.50

Store B -
Day One,
375÷100
=3.75 x 25
=93.75
$375 - $93.75
= $281.25

Day Two,
281.25÷100
=2.81 x 25
=70.25
$281.25 - $70.25
=$211

I think that Store A is a better buy because you would save more money than you would if you went to Store B. At Store A you would be saving $35.50.

A better deal would be taking 50% of the original price because you're mostly just taking the original price and just dividing it in half. I think 50% is better because if you used the 25% and then used the reduced price and took off another 25%, I think you'd be just making your sale price little by little.

That is my Percent Post.

Joyce's Percent Post

Welcome to my percent post

Part 1 - Describe how to find percents.

  • 50% - take the number and divide it by 2
  • 10% - take the number and divide it by 10
  • 1% -  take the number and divide it by 1
  • 25% - take the number and divide it by 4
  • You also need to define what a percent is - a percent is another term for "hundredths".

Part 2 - You need to show 3 images showing Representing Percents. You choose the 3 but you could

  • 180%

  • 12 3/4 %

  • 0.7%

Part 3 - You need to explain how to convert from Decimals to Percents to Fractions. Choose 3 sets

  • 26%
Decimals:
To convert percents to decimals, divide the number by a hundred (26 ÷ 100 = 0.26)

Fractions:
To convert percents to fractions, you have to find the decimal. Once you have found the decimal, find the place value of the last digit after the decimal. (0.26 = 26/100)
  • 7/10%
Decimals:
To convert fractions to decimals, divide the numerator and the denominator together. (7 ÷ 10 = 0.7)

Percents:
To convert fractions to decimals, multiply the decimal that you got by 100. (0.7 x 100 = 70)
  • 0.024%
Fractions:
To convert decimals to fractions, find out the place value of the last digit of the decimal. (0.024 = 24/1000)

Percents:
To convert decimals to percents, multiply the decimal to 100. (0.024 x 100 = 2.4)

Part 4 - Percent of a number is the next part of this exercise. Show how you could solve the following using mental math and a calculator.

  • 20% of 60
Mental Math:
10% of 60 - 60 ÷ 10 = 6
6 x 2 = 12

Calculator:
20% of 60 - 60 ÷ 100 = 0.6
0.6 x 20 = 12

  • 0.1% of 40
Mental Math:
40 ÷ 1000 = 0.04

Calculator:
1% of 40 - 40 ÷ 100 = 0.4
0.4 x 0.1 = 0.04
  • 250% of 400
Mental Math:
400 x 2 = 800 - 400 ÷ 2 = 200
200 + 800 = 1000

Calculator:
400 ÷ 100 = 4
4 x 250 = 1000

Part 5 - Combining Percents is the last part of this post. You need to explain Discount, Sale Price and Total Price with taxes. I also need you to explain what is a better deal 50% off or 25% off of an already reduced price of 25%. This can be done using the following questions,

Discount - Discount is a deduction from the usual cost of a selling object.
Sale Price - Sale Price is the lower price for the object(s) you are buying.
Total Price With Taxes - The total price with taxes is the final cost of the objects(s) you are buying. Depending where you live, you have to pay extra.

QUESTION:
What is the final sale price at each store? Which is a better buy?
Store A: 50% off one day only - $249
Store B: 25% off one day followed by 25% off the reduced price the second day - $249

Store A:
50% divide by 2
249 ÷ 2 = $124.50

Store B:
25% divide by 4
249 ÷ 4 = 62.25
$249 - 62.25 = $186.75

Store A is better because you get to save more money. The difference is $62.25. Store A's discount was bigger making the price cheaper than Store B even if they discounted the price twice.

Corinne's Percent Post

"Welcome to my percent post."

Part 1 - Finding Percents

  • 50%
To get 50%, you take the whole then divide by 2.
eg. 50% of 80 = 40 ( 80 / 2 = 40)
  • 10%
To get 10%, you take the whole then divide by 10.
eg. 10% of 20 = 20( 20 / 10 = 2)

  • 1%
To get 1%, you take the whole and then divide by 100.
eg. 1% of 11 =0.11 ( 11 / 100 = 0.11)

  • 25%
To get 25%, you take the whole then divide by 4.
eg. 25% of 40 = 10( 40 / 4 = 10)

Percent - A percent means out of 100, and is another way of saying hundredths.

Part 2 - Representing Percents

  • 180%
This is a representation of 180% on a hundred grid.

  • 12 3/4%

This is a representation of 12 3/4% on a hundred grid.

  • 0.7%

This is a representation of 0.7% on a hundred grid.

Part 3 - Converting Decimals, Percents, and Fractions

  • 26%

Decimal - To convert a percent into a decimal, you take the whole, then you divide by a hundred.

eg. 26 / 100 = 0.26

Fraction - To convert a percent into a fraction, first you have to, get the percents' decimal number, and the digits becomes the numerator. Then you look to see what place value the last digit is in. The place value of the last digit becomes the denominator in your fraction.

eg. 26 / 100 = 0.26 - the last digit (6) is in the hundredths place value
26/100

  • 7/10
Decimal - To convert a fraction into a decimal, you take the numerator and you divide it by the denominator.

eg. 7 / 10 = 0.7

- Percent - To convert a fraction into a percent, you first have to get the fractions decimal, then you multiply the decimal by 100.

eg. 7 / 10 = 0.7
0.7 x 100 = 70%

  • 0.024
- Percent - To convert a decimal into a percent, you have to multiply the whole by 100.

eg. 0.024 x 100 = 2.4%

- Fraction - To convert a decimal into a fraction, you take the digits and make it the numerator. Then you look to see what place value the last digit is in. The place value of your last digit will be your denominator.

eg. 0.024 - the last digit (4) is in the thousandths place value.
24/1000

Part 4 - Percents of a Number

  • 20% of 60

Mental Math - To find 20% of 60 using mental math, you figure out 10 percent of 60 is, then you multiply that number by two (20%)!
eg. 10% of 60 = 6
10% of 60 = 6
6 + 6 = 12

Calculator - To find 20% of 60 using a calculator, you take the whole, and divide it by a 100, and you will get an answer of a decimal number. Next you take that decimal number and you multiply it by 20.
eg. 60 / 100 = 0.6
0.6 x 20 = 12

  • 0.1% of 40
Mental Math - To find 0.1% of 40 using mental math, you have to figure out what 1% of 40 is, then you take your answer and divide that by 10, which is 0.1%. Also, if you know that to get 1% of a number, you divide by 100, then that means to get 0.1% of a number, you divide by 1000.
-eg. #1 - 1% of 40 = 4
(1% / 10 = 0.1%)
4/ 10  = 0.04
-eg. #2 - 40 / 1000 = 0.04 (0.1%)
Which is like saying : (40 / 100 / 10 = 0.04)

Calculator - To find 0.1% of 40 using a calculator, you take the whole, and divide it by 100, and you will get an answer of a decimal number. Next you take that decimal number and multiply it by 0.1.
eg. 40 / 100 = 0.4
0.4 x 0.1 = 0.04

  • 250% of 400
Mental Math - To find 250% of 400 using mental math, you take the whole, and you multiply it by two (200%). Then next, you divide the whole to get 50%.
eg. 400 x 2 = 800
(400 / 2 = 200)
200 + 800 = 1000

Calculator - To find 250% of 400 using a calculator, you take the whole and divide it by 100, and you multiply your answer by 250(%).
eg. 400 / 100 = 4
4 x 250 = 1000

Part 5 - Combining Percents

Discount - A discount is when a price is deducted (reduced, took away) from its original value.A discount is a percentage of the whole, and that percentage is the money you save.

Sale Price - A sale price is a lower price that is reduced from to help you save money. The money that you save from a sale, is the discount!

Total Price with Taxes - A total price with taxes is the final price of an item that you pay extra for, depending on where you live; the extra money goes to your government and your province (PST - Provincial Sales Taxes, and GST - Government Sales Taxes)

Question :
Store A: $240.99 (50% off one day only)
Store B: $231.00 (25% off one day, followed by 25% off the reduced price the next day)

Store A: $240.99 / 100 = 2.4099
2.4099 x 50 = 120.495 ($120.50)
$240.99 - $120.50 = $120.49

Store B: $231.00 / 100 = 2.31
2.31 x 25 = 57.75
$231.00 - $57.75 = $173.25
$173.25 / 100 = 1.7325
1.7325 x 25 = 43.3125 (43.31)
$173.25 - $43.31 = 129.9375 ($129.94)

Store A is a better buy because you save more money (save - $9.45).

  • A better deal would be taking 50% off an original price, because taking 50% off is pretty much dividing the price in half. But when you take an original price and deduct 25% and then another on the deducted price, you take 25% off on an even smaller number, meaning your answer will be a smaller amount.

That is my percent post!
